With the agreement of the International Hansa Class Association, the organisers of the 2014 Hansa Class Combined World & International Championships have announced the event will be abandoned.
Organising Committee Chair, Cristina Rubke, said today, “Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Organizing Authority is abandoning the 2014 Hansa Class Combined World & International Championships. We hope we can work with the IHCA in the future to expand participation in the wonderful sport of sailing”.
The Championship was due to be held at South Beach Harbour in San Francisco from September 15-21.
“The organisers have not been able to attract the support and progress preparations for the event that would ensure it met with class standards”, said IHCA Technical Delegate Zoltan Pegan.
“With sailors from around the world needing to book flights and accommodation and arrange shipping of boats, it was important that a decision was made as early as possible”.
“While there is not enough time to arrange an alternative venue for a 2014 Worlds, there is a strong program of regattas throughout the year - especially in Europe. Hansa Class Nationals are currently scheduled in Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Switzerland, Great Britain, Spain and Portugal. These events can offer Hansa Class sailors a high standard of international competition”, said Pegan.
Continental Championships are due to be conducted in 2015 in Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America. The 2016 Worlds are scheduled to be held in Europe.
